Membership is USD 1,000 a year, payable when your application is accepted and then each year on renewal.

Who can join

Umbrella is a small network by design. Every member is vetted before joining: we look at the company’s history, references and financial standing.

What we look for

  • An established, legitimate freight forwarder in your country
  • The financial and operational capacity to handle members’ cargo
  • A professional, ethical way of doing business
  • No involvement in fraudulent or illegal activity

What members commit to

  • Clear, professional communication with fellow members
  • Honouring agreed payment terms with other members
  • Telling us early about serious disputes or payment concerns
  • Working with the network, not just being listed in it
  • Attending the AGM at least once every two years
  • Promoting only the countries you represent in Umbrella

Two or three forwarders who know your work: company, contact and email. We do call them.

What happens next: the network director reads every application personally and calls your references. If your country is open and the fit is right, you will get an invitation call — usually within a few working days.

Questions before you apply

Will my company be the only member in my country?

In almost every country, yes. Umbrella appoints one member per country as its sole representative. In a few very large or complex markets we may appoint more than one.

What does membership cost?

Membership is USD 1,000 a year, payable when your application is accepted and then each year on renewal. The AGM is paid separately.

Can I lose my exclusive seat?

Only if a member stops meeting its obligations, for example by not attending an AGM at least once every two years, or by not honouring payments to other members. In that case the seat is reviewed and may be opened to a second member.

Does Umbrella guarantee payments between members?

No. Umbrella does not run a payment protection plan, insurance scheme or guarantee fund. What we do is vet every member before they join, and if a dispute arises the Umbrella Committee will help mediate between the two members.

Can I cover neighbouring countries too?

Yes, if the country has no member of its own. Additional countries are added to your membership and paid for, and only then shown as yours.

My country already has a member. Can I still apply?

Yes. Choose your country in the form and you go on the waiting list. If the seat opens up, we contact the waiting list first.

What happens after I apply?

Your application goes straight to the network director, not a sales team. He reads it personally and calls your references. If your country is open and the fit is right, you will be invited to a call, usually within a few working days, and then sent the membership agreement to sign.
